Expansive glass, unobstructed views, and abundant natural light are defining features of luxury residential architecture. Improving comfort and energy performance without compromising those qualities requires more than selecting the right window film. It demands technical expertise, careful planning, and precision installation.
In a recent Window Film Magazine editorial, “High-End Residential Window Film Demands More Than Installation Skills,” Jeff Franson, CEO of FutureVu Brands, parent company of Window Film Depot, shares insights into the complexities of high-end residential window film applications.
“In luxury homes, the glass, architecture and views are often defining features of the property. The objective is to improve the performance of that glass without changing what the homeowner loves about it.” — Jeff Franson, CEO, FutureVu Brands
The article explores important considerations for luxury residential projects, including:
- Preserving architectural aesthetics: Selecting high-performance window films that help reduce solar heat, glare, and UV exposure while maintaining natural light and views.
- Understanding glass compatibility: Evaluating glass type, size, orientation, and thermal stress considerations before specifying film.
- Prioritizing product performance and warranties: Understanding manufacturer warranties and selecting solutions appropriate for the application.
- Recognizing installation expertise: Managing challenging installations involving oversized glass, architectural features, and furnished living spaces.
The editorial also highlights a Window Film Depot installation in Laguna Beach, California, where technicians installed 3M™ Prestige Window Film on expansive ocean-facing glass, navigating challenging access conditions while protecting the home’s interior.
For Window Film Depot, the project illustrates an important principle: successful luxury residential installations require the right combination of product knowledge, technical evaluation, and experienced installation professionals.
